The Annual Arcadia/Monrovia CROP Walk was held Sunday, May 4th at the Santa Anita Race Track. It is an interfaith project of Church World Service (CWS) sponsored by Arcadia Interfaith Action Group. Individuals, organizations, schools, businesses, and congregations of various faiths joined together to walk and raise funds to fight hunger and poverty and to provide disaster relief in our neighborhood, our nation, and abroad. 25% of the funds raised by the CROP walkers remains in the community (Foothill Unity Center), assisting local hunger-fighting agencies selected in advance by the local volunteer planning team. The remaining 75% goes to designated world hunger missions.
The National Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive was held Saturday, May 10th. Foothill Unity Center received approximately 78,000 pounds of food collected by the Duarte, Monrovia, Sierra Madre, Altadena, San Marino, Sunland and 3 Pasadena post offices. A team of over 150 volunteers were on hand to assist post office personnel in sorting and loading food, as well as transporting it to Foothill Unity Center.
